Today I’m excited to introduce you to a young, talented analyst firm based in Asia Pacific (APAC). As many of you are aware, finding a good APAC-based IT analyst firm is challenging. Although most of the major players have a presence in APAC, there are very few firms that base their entire operation in APAC. Springboard Research is based in Singapore and was founded in 2003 by two ex-IDC APAC executives - Dane Anderson and Chris Perrine. Their concept in founding Springboard was to create an “innovative, flexible, and fast moving research firm”.
Dane Anderson is the Vice President for Research for Springboard. Prior to founding Springboard Research, Dane worked for IDC Asia/Pacific for nearly a decade, based in both Hong Kong and Singapore. During this time, he helped in IDC's regional expansion and lead a number of key research areas, including personal systems, enterprise systems, vertical markets and consulting, as well as serving as a senior member of the company's regional management team. His last position with IDC Asia/Pacific was as Vice President of Consulting and Vertical Markets. Dane's views on the Asian IT market are commonly cited in prominent publications and broadcast media where he has gained a reputation as an IT industry guru, and he is a sought after speaker at industry events in both Asia and the United States.
Chris Perrine is Vice-President for Business Development at Springboard, Chris’s focus is on managing all business development, sales and marketing activities for the company. Prior to founding Springboard Research, Chris worked for IDC Asia/Pacific in the position of Regional Sales Manager. In this role, Chris led IDC’s new strategy of targeting industries outside of its core client base in the technology sector. Prior to this, Chris was the Regional Sales Manager for Datastream Systems, a software firm specializing in Enterprise Asset Management Solutions. Datastream is now a market leader in APAC.
According to Springboard’s web site, they claim their firm “is the first true alternative IT market research firm of the 21st Century.” This is a fairly lofty claim, but one that the firm claims they achieve because they are “Led by a team of dynamic industry experts with many years of experience, they were founded on the premise that existing market research was inefficient, lacked depth and was not flexible enough to meet the IT markets’ growing business needs, and they offer a new and innovative approach to research that produces better and faster results, for a fraction of the cost.”
Springboard analyzes the full spectrum of the IT market, with specializations in software, services, vertical markets and emerging sectors. They also specialize in APAC ISVs, Systems Integrators, and partnering opportunities.
Some recent research topics of Springboard include:
- “The Service Oriented Architecture Market In Asia, 2005-2009: The Promised Land - Only 21% of respondents in the study are aware of the concept of SOA
- “Software as a Service in Asia, 2005-2008: Blazing New Routes-To-Market” – The SAAS market expected to grow in the region from US$50 million to US$500 million by 2008
- “India’s Booming Media and Entertainment Industry: IT Market Trends and Opportunities” - IT in the India Media & Entertainment sector is expected to reach US$300 million by 2010
Springboard also recently announced an expansion into the Australia and New Zealand markets with the appointment of Phil Hassey as its Country Manager for Australia and New Zealand. Prior to joining Springboard, Phil was a Research Director for IDC managing research for the Services marketplace across the Asia/Pacific region.
